About Virginia Lottery Rewards

What is Virginia Lottery Rewards?
The new Virginia Lottery Rewards is a loyalty program which awards you points for buying any lottery game online or at a store, and for interacting with the Virginia Lottery app and website. Simply sign up or use your existing Virginia Lottery account to scan your purchases – regardless of if your tickets are winners or nonwinners!

For retail tickets, just think: BUY. PLAY. SCAN. CLAIM. That way you’ll never accidentally claim a winning ticket before scanning and collecting your Virginia Lottery Rewards points. Please note: there is no manual entry option for entering retail tickets.

Points from online purchases will be added to your account within several hours of your purchase but may take up to 48 hours to show on your account.

Earning Points & Scanning Tickets

How do I earn points?
If you do not have a Virginia Lottery account, you will need to register for an account. To do this, click on Register in the dark blue bar at the top of the VALottery.com browser window. If you already have a Virgina Lottery account, just accept the new Terms & Conditions upon logging in, and you can begin accruing points.

You can accrue points by interacting with us in several ways. You automatically earn points for every game you play online – easy peasy! You can also add points to your account by purchasing Lottery games at a retail location and then scanning the ticket’s barcode via the Virginia Lottery app or the mobile version of valottery.com. You can even earn points without purchase. Yes, you heard that right. Celebrating a birthday? Earn points! Is it the anniversary of creating your Virginia Lottery account? Points!

Please note: In some instances, it can take up to 48 hours for the points to be displayed in your account details.

What games are eligible for earning points?
Whether you purchase your Lottery game online or at the store, almost all Virginia Lottery games (winning and nonwinning) will earn points for you.

The exceptions are any Scratchers that do not have either an eXTRA Chances or VA Lottery Rewards logo on them. Those Scratchers cannot be submitted for points. Additionally, exchange tickets are not eligible to be scanned for points. As an example, be sure to scan your original Cash 5 with EZ Match ticket before getting an exchange ticket.

Please also note, draw-games and Print ‘N Play tickets must be scanned within 30 days of the purchase date, and Scratchers will expire 180 days from the official game end date.

How many points will I earn for each type of game?
For any games purchased at a retail location: 5 points for every $1 spent. For any instant games purchased online: 1 point for every $1 spent. For any draw games purchased online: 5 points for every $1 spent.

Is there a maximum number of points I can earn each month?
Yes. The maximum number of points a player can earn each month is 10,000.

Will my points ever expire?
Yes. Unused points will expire one (1) year after they are earned.

My ticket is not being accepted when I try to scan it. What can I do?
If you have a ticket that is not being accepted, check to confirm that it is an eligible game. If you still cannot enter the ticket, for another reason, please contact Customer Support at (804) 692-7777, and we will be happy to assist.

How can I be sure that my ticket has been submitted correctly?
You will receive a confirmation message after scanning your ticket letting you know how many points were recorded. Points cannot be added to your account unless you are logged in at the time of scanning. You also can see your points balance by selecting My Points in the app or online.

Do I have to scan my ticket twice to check if it’s a winner and earn Rewards points?
No. If you are logged in to your Virginia Lottery account, either through the app or mobile version of valottery.com, and want to scan your ticket to see if it’s a winner, it will automatically earn you Rewards points when you scan it. Alternatively, if you want to scan your ticket to earn Rewards points, but have not yet played the game – such as a Scratcher or Print ‘n Play ticket – you will be notified whether it’s a winner or nonwinner.

Do I have to wait for all of the drawings on my draw-game ticket to occur before scanning it for Rewards points?
No. You can scan your draw-game ticket as soon as you purchase it. Make sure you enter your original ticket PRIOR to claiming/cashing any prize won on the ticket if it is a winning ticket. Rewards points cannot be earned after any draw game, Print ‘n Play or Scratcher prize is claimed.

Are Scratchers that have the eXTRA Chances logo eligible for submission into the Rewards program?
Yes! All Scratchers that either have an eXTRA Chances logo or a VA Lottery Rewards logo are eligible for submission. Rewards points must be earned within 180 days of a Scratcher’s game ending.

Do you accept tickets by mail for the Rewards program?
No. The Virginia Lottery does not accept retail tickets for Rewards program submission via mail or any manual-entry method. If you wish to enroll in the program, create a Virginia Lottery account, and download the Virginia Lottery app or use the mobile version of valottery.com to scan and enter tickets.

Redeeming Points

How do I redeem points for free online play?
Once you’ve earned points, you can see your points balance on your Rewards page and use them to enter drawings and/or redeem the points for free play at retail or online.

Log in to your Virginia Lottery account and select Redeem Points on the Rewards page online or in the app. Select the amount you would like to redeem, and the online credits will be deposited into your online player wallet.

How do I redeem points for free play at retail?
Log in to your Virginia Lottery account, and select Redeem Points on the Rewards page online or in the app. Select the number of points and how you want to redeem those points – either as a Lottery Vending Machine credit (for any game that’s available at that Lottery Vending Machine) or as a retail coupon (draw game only). You will receive an email with a digital coupon that you can scan and redeem either at the Lottery Vending Machine or as a coupon for your favorite draw game at the counter.

How do I redeem points for Virginia Lottery Rewards drawing entries, and is there a limit on the number of points I can redeem for entries?
Log in to your Virginia Lottery account, and select Redeem Points on the Rewards page. Select Drawings, and enter as many Rewards drawings as your points balance allows. You can use your points for multiple entries into one drawing or use them for entries into different drawings. It’s your choice!

Is there a limit on the number of points I can redeem for free play in a month?
Yes. The maximum number of points a player can redeem each month for free play is 5,000. Any remaining points can be saved or redeemed for Rewards drawing entries.

What are the odds of winning a prize in a Virginia Lottery Rewards drawing?
The odds of winning a prize in a Rewards drawing depend on the total number of entries received.

How will I be contacted if I win a prize in a Virginia Lottery Rewards drawing?
The name, city and state of each winner will be listed on the Lottery’s website once the information is validated (usually within 5 business days of the drawing date). We try to contact winners by email, phone and/or mail. If you want us to reach you quickly, be sure your contact information in your Virginia Lottery account is current and correct. If we can’t reach a winner by the deadline listed in the rules, we will move to an alternate.

Account Questions

Can I combine accounts or transfer points?
No. Points cannot be transferred from one Virginia Lottery account to another. You are restricted to using one account. If you want to make changes to your account (such as updating your email address), you should not create a new account. Instead, log in to your account, select Account details, and update your information there.

What if I am self-excluded? Can I still earn points?
No. If you self-exclude, you will not be able to log in to your Virginia Lottery account during the time period you set for self-exclusion.

How do I deactivate my Virginia Lottery account?
You can deactivate your account by calling Customer Support to request deactivation. Once you submit your request, you will no longer be able to sign into the account, play Lottery games online or participate in the Rewards program with the deactivated account. Any points remaining after deactivation will be forfeited.

How do I contact the Virginia Lottery with questions about my rewards?
We’re available to help you Monday through Friday from 7:00am-6:30pm by calling (804) 692-7777. If you call after hours, please leave a voicemail and we will get back to you the next business day.
