Creating a MyGameRoom account with the Virginia Lottery

It’s safe, it’s secure, and it’s your ticket to fun online with the Virginia Lottery!

You could enter to win an eXTRA Chances prize with a Virginia Lottery account

Here’s the scenario:

You’ve played a Virginia Lottery Scratcher and did not win. However, you notice the eXTRA Chances logo in the corner and figure it’s worth a shot: Why not get another chance to win one of the great prizes available by entering the ticket online?

However, when you go to enter your ticket in MyGameRoom on the Lottery’s website, you’re asked to login or register. Since you don't have an account, you decide to register and create one.

This is where you notice that the form asks you for a lot of details – more than just the name and an email address you’re used to on other websites. It makes you wonder: “Name, date of birth, address, last four of my Social Security Number… why does the Virginia Lottery need all of this from me?”

Does this sound familiar?

Knowing who you are helps keep you secure

It may seem like we’re asking you for a lot of details, but there’s a good reason: your security.

There is only one of you; we want to make sure that your account and all activity related to your account belong only to you.

Think of it this way – if anyone could create an account in your name, that means anyone could claim a prize that is rightfully yours. That eXTRA Chances prize would go to someone who is not you.

Your security is extremely important to us if you play Virginia Lottery games online or use our mobile app. If you play Mega Millions, Powerball, Cash4Life® or an instant game, we want to be sure that we can verify if you’re 18 or older before you play our games and that only you are claiming your prizes.

Your data stays safe with the Virginia Lottery

One other question you may have is this: “What happens to my data once I provide it to the Virginia Lottery?”

The Virginia Lottery retains records of your data in order to conduct internal research and may reach out to you on occasion if you’ve opted in to receive communications from us. We also may share your data with trusted lottery-technology partners in order to assist you if you need help.
